Residential (day 2)

12th May 2016

Everyone woke up (very) early on Day 2, and after breakfast we made our own pack lunches for our picnic later on.

We changed into our waterproofs again, and then kayaked across to Salt island. The weather was lovely and it took us about 40 minutes to "row" over; the hardest part was getting everyone to "row" at the same time!

On the island, Keiran (from KOEC) showed us how to make knots. build shelters and make camp fires. We had a competition to see which group could make the best shelter, complete with "chairs", grass "rugs" and welcome signs. Then after lunch we followed an orienteering course across the island before getting back into our kayaks and "rowing" across to Delamont Country park. We finished the afternoon with a dip in Strangford Lough which was great fun.

After dinner (spaghetti Bolognese and pavlova!) we went for a walk around Killyleagh to have a look at its harbour and beautiful castle.
